NZ: Government falls for McDonalds’ marketing ploy

Green MP Sue Kedgley is calling on the Minister of Health to pull the plug on its ill-advised plans to have fast food chain McDonalds sponsor mobile dental services around New Zealand.

Ms Kedgley said DHBs that accept McDonalds’ sponsorship are effectively endorsing McDonalds and the products it sells, and collaborating in McDonalds’ marketing and advertising plans.

Greens say McDonald’s linked dental sponsorship should be dumped

“Health authorities should dump a sponsorship deal for Northland mobile dental services that has links to fast-food chain McDonald’s, the Green Party says.

“But those behind the plan say Northland children have the worst rates of tooth decay in the country and the region needs all the help it can get to improve dental health.”
