NZ: Government announces $67m package to tackle obesity in young people

Mission On

The government’s Mission-On programme¬†now has a package of new initiatives to tackle obesity in young people.

FOE welcomes the package as a useful start, but is concerned that the government is adopting a wait-and-see approach before considering a regulatory approach.  There is more than enough evidence that regulation in some areas is required. Reliance on information, education and voluntary actions by the food and advertising industries will not work, and FOE believes that far stronger actions than just Mission-On are needed now.

Healthy lifestyles package for young Kiwis

The Prime Minister Helen Clark today announced Mission-On, a $67 million Government-wide package of initiatives to help young New Zealanders improve their nutrition and be more active.
