NZ: Takeaway food sales show huge increase since 2002

Statistics NZ figures show that sales of takeaway foods remained relatively flat between 1995 and 2002 but increased by 88 percent since mid 2002.

“The longer-term trend for takeaway food retailing stayed relatively flat between the start of the series in 1995 and mid 2002, rising at an average of 0.1 percent per month. Since then, the rate of increase has risen to an average of 1.2 percent per month. This has seen the trend for takeaway food retailing increase by 88 percent since June 2002. Over the same period, the next largest increase in the food-related group was 41 percent for fresh produce retailing.”
