NZ: Advertising codes need major changes

The Advertising Standards Authority is currently reviewing the Codes for Advertising to Children and for Advertising of Food.  They need to. These codes aren’t working.

A review of complaints under the existing Codes show that they have been ineffective. They haven’t protected children from the advertising of less healthy foods and drinks.  The report by John White shows that some major changes to the wording of the Codes is needed if children are to be adequately protected.

Public submissions to the ASA on the Codes closed on 13 May 2009.
