NZ: Renewed call for ban on junk food in schools

The Nurses Association is one of many organisations, including FOE, who want the government to bring back the healthy food guidelines in schools. These required schools to sell only nutritionally-sound food and were scrapped by the national-led government early in 2009.

However, Health Minister Tony Ryall said on Morning Report that it is unlikely that there will be a change to bring back the healthy food requirement.  He says it’s enough to simply encourage schools and that boards of trustees should make decisions on what is stocked in their school tuck shop.
