Romania: Junk food tax coming up

Romania is planning to introduce a tax on fast food with high sugar or fat content, making it the first country in the world to do so.  Officials are analysing the nutritional content of 40,000 fast foods and drinks to decide what exactly should be taxed.  The legislation will go to  Parliament in March.

The proceeds from the tax will be spent on health programmes.
