US: Why the US Federal Government needs to halt the marketing of unhealthy foods to kids

Last year, a group of US agencies proposed standards for foods and beverages marketed to children between the ages of two and 17.  The group will report back to the US in July.

However,  the proposed standards have one problem, according to an editorial in Scientific American.  They are voluntary. They should be mandatory, not optional, and the Federal Drug Agency should implement and enforce them.
