NZ: Food labelling too complicated – study

Current nutrition labels on food packets are a waste of time, according to a study by a PhD student.

Food labelling varies and confuses shoppers.  It is difficult to understand.

The researchers favour introducing standardised front-of-pack labelling to help consumers make healthy choices.

The study, ‘A qualitative study of New Zealand parents’ views on front-of-pack nutrition labels’ was published in Nutrition & Dietetics, on 25 May 2010.
