Maori Party’s Rahui Katene’s Bill calling for GST to be removed from healthy food had its first reading in Parliament on 8 September.
National and Act did not support the Bill, citing the simplicity of New Zealand’s GST system.
Both Labour and the Green Party supported the Bill going to the Health Select Committee so the New Zealand public could have its say.
The first reading of the Bill was not agreed to. It won’t go any further.
