In his latest blog, economist Gareth Morgan comments on Air Samoa’s decision to charge passengers by overall weight – combined baggage and body weight.
He suggests this “user pays” model is not as simple as it looks and that the implications are enormous. He argues that obesity is caused by many factors including our genes, upbringing and modern living habits, as well as our choices. Gluttony is not necessarily the culprit. And we can’t change our genes.
