New code under fire as site encourages pester power
An Uncle Toby’s website recently had a promotion encourging children to get their parents to buy Roll-Ups, says the Sydney Morning Herald. The kids could then enter a competition to win great prizes.
Although people complained to the Australian Advertising Standards Bureau about this, their complaints failed. The new food and beverage marketing code does not cover product websites. (Apparently promotions on product websites are “deemed not to constitute advertising or marketing.”)
However, the website promotion closed down shortly afterwards.
