Food marketing directed to children

Victorian government authority, VicHealth has made its position on advertising junk food to children clear. It believes that

  • current Australian advertising regulations are inadequate for dealing with advertising and marketing of unhealthy food targeting children
  • a substantial restriction on commercial marketing of food and beverages to children is justified as part of a broad approach to promoting healthy eating.
  • VicHealth wants comprehensive legislation to prohibit all forms of marketing and advertising of foods or beverages, other than healthy foods or beverages, directed to children.
