Move to milk great news for kids

The Health Sponsorship Council gives the “thumbs up” to the decision by most G9 rugby unions to substitute fizzy drinks with milk, saying “This sends a really clear message that unhealthy drinks and sport do not go together.”

Any initiative to stop children thinking that drinking fizzy drinks is a normal everyday activity is a good thing. A recent New Zealand review found “extensive evidence that sugary drinks contribute to weight gain in children”.

That this healthy drinks message is being promoted by sporting organisations is even better.
