Preference for less healthy supermarket foods

Researchers analysed what regular customers at a Wellington supermarket purchased over the course of one year. They found that some of the most popular products were also the least healthy.

Shoppers favoured full-fat milk, full-sugar soft drinks and white bread over healthier options in these food groups.

Fat and sugar top of Kiwis’ shopping lists

Many Kilbirnie Pak ‘N Save shoppers took part in the Supermarket Healthy Options Project over a one year period. When researchers analysed the data they found that the shoppers were more likely to choose high-fat high sugar foods.
