B4 school health checks announced
New Zealand four-year-olds can take part in The B4 School programme where they get get a number of health checks, including height and weight.
A pilot programme has been launched in Wanganui and Counties Manukau and will go nationwide next year. It will identify any health or social concerns which could affect a child’s ability to learn. If a problem is found, the nurse delivering the check will discuss it with the caregiver and if necessary refer them to an appropriate service such as a family doctor.
