A landmark study on the link between lifestyle and cancer found strong evidence that high body fatness and physical inactivity are causes of some common cancers.
The World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research reviewed 7,000 studies on diet, exercise, weight and cancer published worldwide. New Zealand’s nutrition expert Professor Jim Mann was on the advisory group.
Their report makes ten recommendations to reduce the risk of cancer such as:

Obesity, inactivity ‘strongly linked to cancer’
Stuff reports on the study, saying that obesity and lack of exercise are putting New Zealanders at higher risk of getting cancer.

Obesity link to cancer brings ad ban call
Anti-obesity groups are calling for the government to take action, after the release of the World Cancer Research Fund Report. This includes banning junk food advertising to children, and a ‘traffic-light’labelling system for food.
They also want the targets proposed in Parliament’s health select committee report into obesity and type-2 diabetes to be met.
