Research shows few children receive a healthy lunch
Massey University researchers investigated the contents of children’s packed lunches in six primary schools. They found that only 10 percent of these lunch boxes contained food that meets nutritional guidelines for children.
The typical lunchbox had a white bread sandwich, a packet of potato chips and a biscuit or chocolate bar.
Most of the food thrown into rubbish bins was healthy food - sandwiches, fruit and yoghurt.
