A Massey University researcher investigated the price of fruit and vegetables at five supermarkets over the course of one year. She found that prices vary widely between shops and between seasons. A family of four would have to spend between $31 and $59 a week on fruit and vegetables to meet the recommended 5+ a day.
She says that GST should be removed on on fruit and vegetables and that fruit in schools should be extended to all schoolchildren.
