Parents Jury Fame and Shame Awards announced
Australian parent’s group, the Parents Jury, hold annual awards for the best and worst food marketing campaigns of the year. (New Zealand has had similar awards in the past, organised by the Green Party.)
The Shame award for Pester Power for using marketing techniques that encourage children to pester for unhealthy foods such as toy giveaways, movie tie-ins and celebrity endorsements went to McDonald’s ‘Kung Fu Panda’ Happy Meal.
The Shame award for Smoke and Mirrors for using manipulative marketing techniques went to a Kelloggs for a school lunch box advertisement.
The Shame award for the Techno Hack for marketing to children using new media technologies went to a McDonald’s happy meal website.
The Fame award for Parents’ Choice went to Woolworths.
